The first step is easy

Talk to us about where you live, how long you’ve lived in your house, what you love about it, and what’s not working. Tell us whether you’ve worked with a designer or contractor before. Be honest about your budget

Now trust us, we know that this topic makes many people uncomfortable. They worry that if they share a real number with us, we’ll spend the entire amount, even if we could do the project for less. But while there may be people in our industry who work that way, we don’t. We simply want to know your budget so that we can design the perfect space for you. Using the budget as a guideline—not an open checkbook—we can help you decide whether it makes sense to move the plumbing, open up an exterior wall, or whether a hardwood floor is the right choice. Understanding your budget also helps us to create a realistic timeline and prevent cost overruns and other unwelcome surprises along the way.

As part of our process, we’d love to come out to your home. We want to meet your family, including the dog and the cat. Even if we’re only talking about a bathroom, we’d love to see your entire house, and even the garden, because it helps us understand how you live and how we can help you create the space you want.

The choices are yours

We’ll give you several different estimates for your project that reflect a range of materials and choices—painted vs. stained cabinets, Carrara marble vs. Cambria, wallpaper vs. paint, limestone vs. hardwood, a La Cornue stove vs. a Viking vs. a Kitchenaid—you get the idea. We’ll also recommend and hire the right team for your project, including contractors, electricians, plumbers, craftspeople and artisans.

From floorplans to fabrics

We’ll create comprehensive floor plans, detailed elevations and construction drawings for your project. We’ll also provide a feast of paint colors, fabric swatches, wall covering samples and tiles, and help you make the right choices for the way you live. As an example, if you have kids who love Welch’s grape juice and boisterous friends who adore red wine, we may recommend countertops that don’t stain and fabrics that can withstand even the most vigorous abuse! Once the decisions have been made, we’ll work with you at every step of the way to ensure that your project happens on time, and on budget!
